CommuScore was founded by Priya Mistry and Philile Mkhize in 2017.
We are an alternate credit scoring model capturing informal financial behaviours that provides a credit identity for the 'unscored' or underscored low-income consumer.
Our solution enables community based saving scheme members (e.g. informal savings groups, Stokvels, eSusus, Chamas) to manage their groups payment history, meetings and loans by members and other functionalities that enables us to capture and track payment behaviours of individuals. We are able to create a credit score using these behaviours.
Currently, South Africa has 800,000 stokvels registered at the National Stokvel Association of South Africa and 11 million people contributing to these types of community based saving schemes.
